When India Feels the Pride!

Praising heroic efforts

Riding the wave of success

Indian Tri - colour fills the atmosphere

Down - under

Echoes of ‘India has won’ engulf The Gabba Ground!!

Cricket gives us lessons in pride. What is pride? It is a very situational word and the meaning of pride changes with every situation. So for a soldier pride is in completing a task and conquering a post, for a teacher pride is in watching his/her students perform well, for a politician pride is in gathering maximum public support , and for a parent pride is in watching his child completing a race ahead of others .

It is said that pride is a useless feeling to have and a person never chokes if he swallows his pride! Still wars are fought, lives are lost, Friends become enemies just to save pride!

For a nation to feel proud about something has a completely new meaning. National pride is not a territory which belongs to few, but it is a collective feeling of accomplishment for the citizens of a nation.

When an Indian sits back and thinks about events, instances, people and causes which have made  him feel proud of his nation, cricketing moments of glory and cricketers outstanding  feats in the world of sport are placed right at the top. Cricket has given so many moments, to the common man of India to be proud of being an Indian. Many on the streets and in our villages and small town who do not even know the meaning  the word “pride” have begun to taste it!

Cricket has given us some names to treasure. From dashing C. K Naidu to youthful Rishabh Pant , From Nawab Pataudi  to  Virat Kohli , From Sunil Gavaskar to Ajinkya Rahane , from Kapil dev to Md. Siraj, From Kris Srikanth to Rohit Sharma, From Sachin Tendulkar to Washington Sundar, from Saurav Ganguly to Shubman Gill, from Rahul Dravid to Chrteshwar Pujara, from Mahendra Singh Dhoni to Shardul Takur to name a few Etc. These names become household names and have given most of us one reason or the other to be proud of.

In a country of billion people, it is our cricketing heroes who time and again have given us proud moments. Our Indian pride cannot forget the age-old sight of Kapil Dev holding aloft Prudential World cup at Lords Balcony in 1983, nor can we forget easily Dhoni’s Daredevils feat of winning 20 – 20 world cup in South Africa in 2007!!

The sight of our cricketers carrying our tri –colour proudly and taking  victory laps leaves most countrymen gasping with excitement and asking for more. Nothing can be a prouder moment for an Indian than these very stimulating sights. No wonder the whole country including me are exalting in joy from the win at Gabba,

Amidst this pandemic when the whole country is looking for reasons to survive and move forward, the victory at Gabba of the Indian Cricket Team on 19th January has given the whole nation and all the Indian around the world a reason to rejoice.

Well done Team India! You have brought cheer to our homes and given this message loud and clear- “Never Stop Believing in Yourself!”. Thank You.
